Bohemian Chic 70s Fashion: Thea Porter
Fri March 27th 2015
Bath Assembly Rooms, Bennett Street, Bath, BA1 2QH
Thea Porter (1927–2000) came to epitomize bohemian chic in 1970s London. She established her combination of fashion and interior design, cultivating clients such as Pink Floyd and The Beatles, Faye Dunaway, Elizabeth Taylor and Barbra Streisand – as well as royal patrons including Princess Margaret.
The retrospective covers Porter’s life and career from her early years in Jerusalem and Damascus, Beirut in the 1950s, Soho in the 1960s, and New York, Los Angeles and Paris in the 1970s.
This talk will be given by Laura McLaws Helms who has edited a major new book to accompany the exhibition at London’s Fashion & Textile Museum on Thea Porter (until 3rd May 2015).
Laura McLaws Helms is a fashion historian, writer and design consultant. She is the guest curator of Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic, with Dennis Nothdruft, at the Fashion and Textile Museum, London.
