WHERE:

London

WHAT:

To coincide with the new retrospective exhibition at The Whitworth in Manchester (until August 2016), Sam Reich brings a selection of archive textiles and designs to the Fashion and Textile Museum that offer a personal perspective on his grandfather’s life and work. Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1916, Tibor Reich studied architecture and textiles in Vienna before moving to Britain in 1937. In 1946 he set up Tibor Ltd, introducing bright new colours and textures into the drab interiors of post-war Britain. The firm rapidly gained an international reputation working on commissions for the Festival of Britain, Expo ’58, the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and Concorde.

This illustrated talk is a rare opportunity to hear about Tibor Reich’s innovative textiles, photography, ceramics and drawings. Sam Reich also outlines how the centenary exhibition was organised and curated, as well as his initiative to revive the family manufacturing business in the 21st century.
